Imaging in scattering media by use of laser speckle

چکیده
We present a method for the detection and localization of inhomogeneities embedded within highly scattering media that employs speckle statistics with a partially coherent light source. Variations in speckle contrast as a function of position are used to interrogate inhomogeneities deeply embedded within scattering media. A numerical model based on photon diffusion theory is introduced to predict speckle contrast as a function of scan position. This model uses measured speckle data to determine scattering and absorption parameters. © 1997 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(97)03309-7]

Simultaneous measurement of water flow velocity with fluorescent and speckle imaging technique
The average velocity of water flow has been simultaneously measured with fluorescent and speckle imaging methods. The measured velocities with two methods are in good agreement with each other and it confirms that the speckle imaging method can be used as a confident method to measure the velocity of water flow in a dry leaf. Also the velocity of water flow through thick and thin xylems of a le...
متن کاملCharacterization and imaging in optically scattering media by use of laser speckle and a variable-coherence source.
We demonstrate the application of laser-speckle statistics formed by a variable-coherence source illuminating a scattering medium, for determining the scattering parameter mu;(s)>(?) of a diffusion model for the medium. Furthermore, we apply this technique to visualize laterally localized inhomogeneities embedded within a highly scattering sample.
متن کاملQuantitative, depth-resolved determination of particle motion using multi-exposure, spatial frequency domain laser speckle imaging.
Laser Speckle Imaging (LSI) is a simple, noninvasive technique for rapid imaging of particle motion in scattering media such as biological tissue. LSI is generally used to derive a qualitative index of relative blood flow due to unknown impact from several variables that affect speckle contrast. These variables may include optical absorption and scattering coefficients, multi-layer dynamics inc...
متن کاملSpeckle-free laser imaging using random laser illumination.
Many imaging applications require increasingly bright illumination sources, motivating the replacement of conventional thermal light sources with bright light-emitting diodes, superluminescent diodes and lasers. Despite their brightness, lasers and superluminescent diodes are poorly suited for fullfield imaging applications because their high spatial coherence leads to coherent artefacts such a...

We demonstrate an endoscopic imaging system for microscopic flow measurement (for example blood flow in tissue) using laser speckle contrast imaging.
